Misawa Citizen's Forest

This also called Shimin no Mori, and I have blogged about it before. It is just north of base. You can literally throw rocks at it from the dirt road leading up to the dog park in North Base Housing. Part of our walk took us along the base fence. It's almost depressing how close it is, and yet it's still almost a 20 minute drive from our house. Seth keep saying he's just going to rent a canoe and paddle over to the park, since it border Lake Ogawara.

We had a lot of fun walking the nature trail around the pond. It is beautiful.

We saw lots of these gorgeous flowers on our walk.

The kids brought me lots of treasures.

Caleb found Excalibur

And then everyone had to have a stick:

Even Daddy

This is the conversation we had while I took these pictures.
Seth: You know these aren't sticks, right? They are Scimitars.
Me: And they are whirling?
Seth: Yes, they are whirling.

We found a carnivorous looking plant

So close and yet so far away. This is one of the towers on North Base housing, about 1/2 mile from our house.
Even Caleb gets tired sometimes. We did end up walking 2 miles. And Caleb probably did closer to 3 with all the running back and forth he did.

On our way back we came across this old Japanese man playing his trombone out in the forest. I seriously asked Seth, "He's really there, right? You see him too right?" It was very surreal. Seth said, what would you do if some deer came up and started eating out of this hand or something?" I would say "welcome to Japan." We thought maybe he was about to turning a Forest Spirit or something.

We played at the playground by the lake for a little bit before heading home.

  1. You live in such a pretty place.

I often wonder what the reading would be if we strapped a pedometer onto any of our kids on any given day, with all the back and forth and back and forth.
