Mikami

Yes, this happened in August. Yes I am that far behind on blogging.

For Seth's birthday we went to a restaurant in Misawa called Mikami. Mikami is a traditional style Japanese restaurant that serves multiple pre-determined courses. You must make reservations in advance (we found someone fluent in Japanese to do this for us), and when you do, you tell them which dinner package you would like. You get to sit in your own little room, and the server (dressed in her Yukawa) brings your food into you. It was such a fun experience and the food was all delicious (even the sashimi). We were extra lucky be able to share the night with new friends.

Cucumber wrapped around crab, with seaweed and a vinegar sauce

The red ball is smoked salmon. the casing around it is from a particular seed or fruit (not sure what it is) that grows on some trees here. The seed/fruit inside is red so they used the casing to make the salmon look the same. So pretty!

Sashimi. I don't remember what type of fish. We had been nervous to eat sashimi up until now, but this was sliced so thin that it didn't bother us at all. It was delicious. The flower was edible too.

I don't remember what type of fish this was. Mackerel maybe? It was so so good. This was probably my favorite dish.

Steamed fish. I think this one was the Red Snapper. served with eggplant, pumpkin and green bean. All were excellent.

Sushi

Our wonderful, beautiful server. She spoke excellent English and really made the night a great experience for us.

  2. SUPER cool!! And very, very delicious looking!

And I judge anyone who judges you for posting in October something that happened in August. Which may or may not be worth much from someone who is almost a full year behind on family blogging herself...
