Tanabata

The Tanabata Festival is traditionally held in early July. Fortunately, Misawa celebrates Tanabata later in the month, so we were able to attend our first festival. We had so much fun and are excited that festival season is just beginning.

Tanabata is typically celebrated by writing wishes on strips of paper and hanging them on trees or bamboo poles:

Streamers and paper lanterns are also hung from bamboo poles:

Tanabata is so much fun and is so beautiful. We spent probably an hour just walking down the street enjoying these amazing lanterns. The kids loved running through the streamers. Of course the best part of any festival is the food:

 Yakitori - mmmmmm

We see a lot of these churros too. They kind of taste like a rice wafer, and come in flavors like chocolate and maple

There was also a plaza with music and live shows. The kids had fun getting their boogie on

They also had a few bouncy houses, and these fun little bumper cars:

A said this was the best day of her life. I can't really blame her.
